I know the coolest guy...

He went to the windows of those who slept,
And over each pane, like a fairy, crept;
Wherever he breathed, wherever he stepped,
By the light of the morn were seen
Most beautiful things; there were flowers and trees;
There were bevies of birds and swarms of bees;
There were cities with temples and towers; and these
All pictured in silvery sheen!

Jack Frost.  He's been around today, sparkling up my truck and all.  I learned about Jack Frost when I was a wee little jabberwock from my mother.  She told me that Jack Frost came and left the designs on the windows in ice.

I wasn't able to find a lot on the origins of Jack Frost.  He's been in songs and movies as that playful sprite that personifies the frost.  Most times he is playful but upon occasion he has also played the villain.  The earliest mention of Jack Frost that I could find was Hannah F. Gould's poem.  You can follow this link to see the whole poem while I go grab another sweater.  Happy winter!

But he did one thing that was hardly fair–
He peeped in the cupboard, and finding there
That all had forgotten for him to prepare–
“Now, just to set them a-thinking,

I’ll bite this basket of fruit,” said he,
“This costly pitcher I’ll burst in three;
And the glass of water they’ve left for me
Shall ‘tchick’ to tell them I’m drinking!”
