Every man's life is a fairy tale written by God's fingers.
~Hans Christian Andersen

Hello and welcome to the Underground!  My name is Samantha (or Miss Jabberwock) and this is a blog about the fabulous creatures and heroes of folk lore.  I've always been a Folk Lore Enthusiast.  I've read so many fairy tales and books on fantastic beasts that most of the time no one knows what I'm talking about.  I will see or hear something that reminds me of a story or a creature that I've read of and then I'm away on a lecture about kelpies or spriggins absolutely astonishing my friends and acquaintance.  I love folk-lore, myths and legends for what they reveals about ourselves, for the hope and joy that the tales bring, and for the building blocks they provide for me as a writer.  I especially love finding obscure tales of hither-to-little-known creatures, perhaps because they are usually more mysterious and their ambiguity makes them more distinctive.

Lore Underground is something of an outlet, intended to put my folkloric knowledge to use in a way that is both entertaining and scholarly.  Thus I will be using as many scholarly sources as I can get my hands on, however I also use other blogs since they are the closest things to first hand accounts as I'm going to get at the moment.  Folklorists in the past have scoured the country sides collecting tales that most often oral so that they do not vanish completely from existence.  As soon as I am able I plan to travel all over and collect as many folk-tales as I can.
